Tattoo Aftercare Instructions
1. Keep the Second Skin On:
Leave the second skin on for 3-5 days, unless it starts peeling off on its own sooner.
The adhesive film protects your tattoo while it heals, so avoid removing it prematurely.
2. Avoid Excess Moisture:
Avoid heavy sweating, swimming, or soaking in water (baths, hot tubs, pools, etc.) while wearing the second skin.
Showering is fine, but keep the water lukewarm and avoid directing strong streams of water on the tattoo.
3. Removing the Second Skin:
When it's time to remove it, do so slowly and carefully. Peel it back gently, not straight up, to minimize irritation.
If it sticks too much, run lukewarm water over it to loosen the adhesive.
4. Clean the Tattoo:
After removing the second skin, wash the tattoo gently with unscented, mild soap and lukewarm water. Use your clean hands (not a cloth or sponge).
Pat the area dry with a clean, soft towel – don’t rub.
5. Apply a Thin Layer of Moisturizer:
Once the tattoo is dry, apply a thin layer of unscented, alcohol-free tattoo-specific ointment or a moisturizer like Aquaphor or a similar product.
Do not use Vaseline or coconut oil – they can clog pores and prevent proper healing.
Do not overapply – a light layer is enough to keep the area hydrated.
6. Ongoing Care:
For the next 2-3 weeks, wash the tattoo gently once or twice a day and apply a light layer of moisturizer as needed.
Avoid direct sunlight and always use SPF 30+ on the tattoo once it’s fully healed to preserve the design.
7. Things to Avoid During Healing:
Do not scratch, pick, or peel any scabs or flaky skin that may appear.
Avoid tight or abrasive clothing that might rub against the tattoo.
Stay away from scented lotions, oils, or any products that can irritate the area.
